We used this for both the Helm and the Watercraft. With a 20MHz external ceramic oscillator (the blue button) and Phase Lock Loop of 16x, this baby operated on a whopping 120MHz.
(Certainly no timer problem decoding the iButton with this one.)

Requires MPLAB C30 if you don’t want to learn dsPIC assembly.
